Formula: Correction from level 5 to level 6
Color correction from level 5 (Light brown) to level 6 (Dark blonde) is one of the most complex services requiring the most experience. The goal is to lighten from level 5 to 6, correcting a previous unwanted result. When working a correction, we must consider not only the current and desired levels but also the hair's chemical history and any artificial pigments that may be present. The red-orange underlying pigment at the current level and the orange background at the target level determine the neutralization strategy. This type of service requires a detailed prior diagnosis and frequently a multi-step process. We guide you through the fundamental technical steps.
Process steps
Deep diagnosis
Analyze the hair's complete history: previous colorings, bleach treatments, and time since last application. The current level (5, Light brown) may have accumulated artificial pigments that hinder lightening. Perform a strand test in a hidden area to verify the hair's reaction.
Preparation and protection
Apply a bond-protecting treatment (Olaplex-type or similar) before proceeding. To lighten from level 5 to 6 in a correction, you will need lightener with 20vol (6%) developer. Prepare the mix with a consistency that allows precise application control.
Zone-controlled lightening
Do not apply product uniformly. Start with the darkest zones or those with the most pigment accumulation. Separate roots, mid-lengths, and ends: each zone may require different timing. Monitor constantly to avoid over-processing. The underlying pigment will reveal orange tones as it approaches level 6.
Intermediate evaluation
Upon reaching the desired underlying pigment (orange for level 6), remove the product and rinse. Evaluate if the level is uniform. If there are uneven zones, a second localized lightening may be needed. Never force the entire head through a second process if only one zone needs it.
Neutralization and reconstruction
Apply a toner with Blue to neutralize orange to neutralize the unwanted background. Process for the minimum time needed. Rinse and apply an intensive reconstruction treatment. Correction is aggressive by nature: aftercare is as important as the process itself.
Maintenance plan
Schedule a follow-up appointment in 10-14 days. Corrected hair needs intensive moisture at home. Recommend sulfate-free products and repair masks. If an adjustment is needed, it will be easier on an already corrected and stabilized base.

Professional tips
- Never attempt to lighten more than 3-4 levels in a single correction session. If you need more, schedule a second session in 2-3 weeks.
- Always use a bond protector during the process. Corrections are the service that most compromises hair integrity.
- If you see greenish tones during lightening (common when removing artificial red pigment), don't panic: they are easily corrected with a warm toner.
- Document the process with photos for the client and for reference at the next appointment.
